Mid-Summer Flow Intensive: Mercury Retro
August begins with a lovely New Moon in the Sign of Leo on the 4th, forming a sextile to Jupiter in Gemini.
It coincides with the Lion's Gate portal, bringing a potent solar activation that can “sirius-ly” :) uplift and invigorate, even as Mercury turns retrograde for most of August.
The flavor for August features a dynamic sky, with a simultaneously introspective and reflective quality.
Fiery and expressive Leo combines with Mars and Jupiter both transiting intellectual and restless Gemini and Mercury in Virgo, the sign it both rules and in which it's considered exalted.
On top of that August is a 7 Universal month, numerologically, encouraging us to do some deep thinking and careful analysis around any of the issues that surface for us during this retrograde cycle (if you know your personal number for the year 2024, add 8 for August to know your number for this month.)
With the challenging influence of Saturn square to Jupiter we can ask ourselves if our dreams and optimism, as wonderful as they are, require a more solid foundation...?
This foundation could relate to practical elements of our plans but also to our inner and spiritual structures (Saturn's retro in Pisces, after all and a huge theme of this 3 year transit is on the need to base more of our decisions and build practices that support a spiritual view of things...you can read more about this transit in my Saturn in Pisces overview, available on Kindle.)
As mentioned in last week's post, this aspect between Jupiter and Saturn (Pam Gregory gave a fantastic breakdown on yt of this conversation which will repeat a couple more times over the next 10 months, inviting more integrity and alignment between our important goals and intentions and the concrete plan (including surrender to the greater plan) to help us stay the course.

What a perfect card to pull for this time: Elephant Spirit reminds us the importance of learning from the past, tradition and our ancestors.
It also speaks to our responsibility as storytellers.
When we are able to draw on and integrate the lessons of the past in a healthy way, we are able to grow and learn new ways of being while honouring where we come from and indeed how far we’ve come.
Questions: As we face obstacles, delays and difficulties (Saturn activation plus the Mercury retro) we get a chance to perceive with greater clarity the themes that repeat for us. What old storylines are coming up for you now that perhaps you were unconscious of before? And if you have been aware of some of these and are working through them, can you regard it as an opportunity for learning, self-forgiveness and surrender, even as you recommit to your heart & soul-aligned path?
